2009 AWC National Specialty

Well, I for one am very happy with the overall judging of our 2009 American Whippet Club National Specialty. The Best of Breed winner and the Winners Dog/Best of Winners - I tried to purchase when they were small pups.
Cody placed 3rd in a huge Futurity class under breeder/judge Carolyn Bowers (Surrey Hill whippets). I won a huge Futurity Class with a client dog and placed 3rd with another client dog (same owner). In regular classes we also did very well. I made the cut with Jackie and Loran and placed with my client dogs. I also made the cut in Best of Breed with a client dog. It was a busy week and I'm glad to be home.

Thanks to Ken Latimer and my wonderful husband, David for helping me with the dogs and keeping my head screwed on tight.

It was great to hang out with my best friend, Crystal McNulty. I miss you already! Here are a couple photos of Ken with Lavender (as Hugh Hefner and the April Playboy bunny of the month) at our Bunny Themed Welcome party (photos by K. Lyons).

Cody turns 6 months

Cody turned 6 months old today and this was how he spent it . . . (please note . . . since he is a minor we have blurred out any of his nudity) . By the way he is sleeping in these photos . . . not playing.

Can you tell this dog has us wrapped around his paw ? I think I will stop breeding dogs and buy them from others from this day forward. Cody has the most awesome personality! He is the sweetest and most comic dog! He's a busy pup but not a destructive one (thank GOD). He loves doing his on thing - he much rather play outside than be in the house. He is giving Lindsey hell when they play now! She used to beat him up when he was smaller now the tables have turned. Cody can grab her neck and hold on now - OUCH!

He won Best Puppy in Match a few weeks ago! The first time he has ever walked into a ring! He is a little show machine!! OH WHAT FUN!!! I'm trying to teach him to say Thank you to the judge. Since he has only had one chance to do that . . . it's a work in progress. He does speak on command . . . sometimes it takes him a few attempts . . . I think he is just figuring out what he wants to say .

Just when people are getting flack about having generic showy-flashy show dogs . . . I finally have that showy-flashy puppy . . . maybe not so generic. Heck, I've never been a part of the "norm" anyway . I showed solid brindles when parti colors were in . . . I showed solid blacks when parti colors were in . . . I showed purple dogs with pink polk-a-dots when parti colors were in . . . now solid fawns are in. What the heck???
